Prayer of the Week 5/8/19

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Father all glorious and o’er all victorious, we come to praise and adore you; and we seek to know you—to draw closer to you, to seek more insight into the mystery of who you are and how you work in our lives.

We search for you with our questions and we try to live with what we think are the answers. We often find that we have misunderstood, but we more frequently find that we have missed the mark of what we understood. So, we recognize that we are in need always of forgiveness, cleansing, restoration and guidance.

We come with contrite confession, to fervently seek with an open heart and open mind to hear the real truth as it really is. Lord, help us receive the pure truth through your Holy Spirit—and set out afresh to live by the truth.

Your Word is Truth and your Word is Life, and your Word came into our realm through Jesus Christ. We thank you, O God. He embodied your Word, expressed your Word, fulfilled your Word. He has revealed you to your people—those created in your Image and longing for restoration.

So, we come with the measure of faith that we have in order that we might be close to you, the Living and Triune God who seeks us and draws us into love as the ultimate essence of all that is true. When we come, we find that you put our hand in the hand of Jesus and assure us that He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

As we turn to the scriptures to hear more about Jesus, we will rejoice that He brought your love to light and eternity into certainty. Help us to learn today from your Word and be better prepared to follow Him, living and praying as He taught us….

Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
