Heart Cries of the Prodigal’s Mother

My son, where are you?

My son, what did I do?

Where did we go wrong?

We had such high hopes and shared good things

And then you were gone.

It seems so long—

My faith, once strong, is wavering.

My Son, are you lonely there?

Do you remember the good that was offered?

Come home and share

So we can celebrate

Before it’s too late.

My son, do I hear you?

My son, do I see you?

Are you really here—

After all my fear?

What made you return?

Was it something I helped you learn—

Long ago about a Father’s Love?

(By Julia Ledford and JoAnn Horton – 9/11/1982)

“The Return of the Prodigal Son” is an oil painting by Rembrandt, part of the collection of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg. It is among the Dutch master’s final works, likely completed within two years of his death in 1669. (Source: Wikipedia)
